I'm sitting in LAX about 11 hour after arriving, and about 17 hours after leaving my apartment this morning. I of course did not sleep well last night out of both anticipation and worry that I would miss my flight. I made it to DCA with just enough time to mark the beginning of my vacation with some McDonalds breakfast. That Ronald really knows his shit.
Five hours later I landed at LAX. The only really amusing thing was that our pilot was absolutely silent until we passed over St. Louis. After that, every five minutes he was on the damn intercom telling us all about something we were passing over, none of which I could see. Apparently the east side of America (while awesome) is not so scenic.
My personal Jesus, Amy, picked me up and we have had a lovely day killing time til I had to be back here. We had fish tacos and walked the Venice Beach boardwalk (where I got all my trip souvenirs, including a pretty sick hemp Bob Marley tshirt...), then got some brews in Santa Monica before walking the pier, and then finally a tasty tasty Italian dinner in Marina Del Rey, which was as authentic an Italian dinner as I've had since March 2009. In fact, several things today have reminded me of Italy 2009, including:
-a restaurant in Santa Monica called Trestevere
-being on VENICE beach
-drinking wine by the liter and a whole restaurant sing-a-long of "That's Amore"
-and my fave, a nice article about that whore KATY PERRY in Entertainment Weekly.
It was a great day in LA, better than I could have asked for, so huge thanks to Amy and Steve. Among many other things they fulfilled their duty to ply me with just enough booze that hopefully the 14 hour flight will be but a foggy memory...perhaps starring the cast of Inception? A girl can dream.
Which brings me to this very moment (whoa, so meta). I'm already in love with every person who I've heard with a Kiwi or Australian accent. I sweet talked my way to a much beloved aisle seat, and am preparing to board soon. I am currently having a "holy shit" moment.
That's all for now from the U.S. After I'm aboard the blackberry goes off for the duration. Will report in when I can. See you later, partners
